About us
Quixate Limited was founded in 2008 by Dr Alex Selby and Dr Mark Owen to
develop technology to analyse the text in photographs.

Alex Selby studied mathematics at the Universities of Cambridge
and Oxford, completing his PhD in pure mathematics in 1993. His
academic career continued with lecturing in the United States and with
fellowships at New Hall, Cambridge. Since then he has worked on a range
of projects, achieving public notoriety in 2000 as a joint winner of
the £1m prize for solving the ‘Eternity’ puzzle,
inventing some new tree-searching algorithms along the way.

Mark Owen studied mathematics and engineering at the University of
Cambridge, completing his PhD in pattern recognition in 1992. He worked
in industry and as a consultant in signal processing and allied fields,
collecting a number of patents in the process, and finds a little time
to work as a freelance translator. His book, ‘Practical Signal
Processing’, was published by Cambridge University Press in 2007
and is available from all good bookshops.
